Dorothy’s Family is a charity dedicated to providing medical treatment and support services to pediatric cancer patients and their families in memory of Dorothy Traver, a loving wife, mother and friend, who lost her battle with cancer on October 3, 2003.

Donations are directed to pediatric cancer patients and their families as they undergo treatment at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL and the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, FL. Contributions are tax deductible through Dorothy’s Family, a certified 501(c)3 corporation.

To date, Dorothy’s Family has funded three programs in the Central Dupage Hospital Pediatric Oncology Unit and one program in Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital.

Dorothy’s Family was founded in Lisle, IL in May, 2007 and its home office is currently located there. The charity was incorporated as a certified 501(c)3 corporation in August, 2009.

Dorothy’s Family opened charitable operations in Orlando in April, 2009. Plans are arranged to continue existing events in Chicago and Orlando this year while opening new operations in Denver and New York in Spring of 2010.

Dorothy’s Family donates its monetary gifts to partner hospitals in cities where the charity conducts its events.

Dorothy’s Family’s Board works closely in conjunction with major gift officers, doctors and nursing staffs at partner hospitals to ensure that 100% of our contributions go directly to children and family support services within each hospital’s pediatric oncology unit.

To date, Dorothy’s Family has hosted twenty events. They include, three annual 2-mile and 5k run-walks, three annual garden parties/bags tournaments, and twelve trivia events all hosted in Chicago and two trivia events hosted in Orlando.

Dorothy’s Family currently draws on a volunteer and donor database of more than 350 individuals to coordinate and attend existing events.
